My American Flag

My American Flag
November 7, 2020

My flag unfurls after four long years
Of angst and worry and persistent tears.

Stored in a corner in quiet repose
Its image sullied by political foes

I loosed it today from bondage demeaning
Freed to fly with promising meaning.

Raise the colors again in united endeavor
Respecting the truth, committed together.
